| en_US |
dc.description.abstractalt2 | The further exploration of the Byzantine aesthetics of the asceticism as of the source of Kyiv Rus’ religious and aesthetical tradition represents the actual task of domestic historical and aesthetical discourse. Studying the aesthetical ideas of the most famous theologians of Byzantium (for example, of sts. Vasiliy, the Great, Grigoriy, the Theologian, Ioann Chrysostom, Grigoriy, bishop of Niss), scientists regularly pay attention to their understanding of different means of secular entertaining in particular. The usual conclusion of such stydies is the following: Fathers and teachers of Church criticize the ancient and the post-ancient spectacle and entertainment culture severely. One must admit, that this negative attitude towards such kinds of entertainment as worldly singing, dancing, enjoying of theatrical spectacles, horse-races, brutal and bloody competitions, etc. is quite natural reaction of Orthodox philosophers. As sincere believers, champions of Christian religious, moral and aesthetic ideals, they could not accept a lot of popular means of entertaining of the ancient and post-ancient worlds because of their amoral and conflict-provoking character and strong connection with paganism. Besides, the numerous phenomena of secular spectacle and entertainment culture were able to prevent person from true spiritual life – from praying, seeking the good psychoemotional state and seeking to make good works and other ascetic practices. At the same time, the Orthodox ascetic and aesthetical tradition has nothing to do with radical negation towards the whole sensual reality, fanaticism and total ignoring of the wishes of person, whose inner world is not perfect yet. Reminding about one episode from Life of st. Grigoriy, bishop of New Caesarea, A. Tsarenok underlines, that aesthetics of the asceticism is able to manifest reasonable indulgence to people, who are in need of entertaining so far. This indulgence, connected with changing of character of entertainment, makes possible a gradual spiritual perfection of person. | en_US |
